Hope City Mission -helping the poor

As the year draws to a close I want to thank the many volunteers who have worked so hard to serve and love the many hundreds of families through our foodbank and pamper days. Our volunteers come in the form of hairdressers, masseurs, cafe staff, bus drivers, administration, counsellors and much more.

Hopecity mission will be providing food for 100 families every week in 2010 and offering free pamper services to over 1500 people.

Just as awesome as seeing adults loved and cared for through our services is seeing their children connecting with our Kids Club.
Quite a number of the parents who experience the love shown at Hopecity mission then feel confident to send their children to enjoy the games, food and prizes at Kids Club.

Our christmas Kids Club was amazing – the number of toys and prizes given away was staggering and didn’t the kids just love that!

Check out this picture which shows some of the kids enjoying a 3D christmas movie.

So thanks again to our wonderful volunteers and remember that those who give to the poor the Lord shall repay

Awakening 2010 – 21 days of prayer and fasting

Awakening Button

Hi all.

I came across a great site today that you might be interested in. As we gear up for an amazing year in 2010 there is no better way to begin than in His presence.
Prayer and fasting positions us in His presence where we are transformed forever.

The website I mentioned is called Awakening – a global plan that promotes a 21 day season of prayer and fasting that takes place at the beginning of each year.

The goal of Awakening is three-fold:

Inspire pastors and church leaders all around the world to establish or strengthen a culture of prayer and fasting in their local church or ministry.

Equip pastors and church leaders with resources and tools that can help facilitate a successful season of prayer and fasting in their church or ministry.

Pray and fast together at the onset of the year, to position our churches and leadership for maximum effectiveness in the coming year.

Check out the website. Once you register on line there are lots of great resources.

The 7 places Jesus shed His blood for our freedom

56920606

1/ In Gethsemane, Jesus Won Back Our Willpower

Luke 22:44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Perspiration fell from Jesus face like great drops of blood as He wrestled with the pain of taking upon Himself the sin of the world and in turn enduring separation from His Father.

Medical doctors confirm that at times of intense fear or agony, a person’s blood vessels can literally break beneath the skin and blood will begin to come out of their pores like sweat.

Out of Jesus’ pores came sweat and blood because of the anxiety, the fear, and the turmoil He was experiencing.
But in this place of turmoil the obedient nature of Christ led Him and us as a result to a place of victory over our will. Jesus declared with eternal consequence, “not My will but your will be done”.

The first place Jesus shed His blood was in a garden because the first place we lost the power of God’s blessing was in another garden, the Garden of Eden. It was in the garden that man chose to rebel against God and exercise the right of his will to live in his mind independently from God.

When Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden we lost our willpower to do what is right.
In essence, Adam said, “Father, not Your will, but mine be done,” and at that moment, Adam sacrificed man’s willpower in every area.

Jesus redeemed us with His blood from this darkened will, a will filled with the self-seeking nature of satan.
The word “redeemed” means that we are brought back to the original place, God’s original plan and purpose for our life.

With Adam’s disobedience we gave our will over to the enemy and lost our ability to say “yes” to all the good God has for us and “no” to all the bad the enemy wants to do to us.

When we’re trying to break an addiction we often say, “I want to stop but I have no willpower.”
But the willpower we lost in the Garden of Eden was won back in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus said, “if it be possible take this cup from Me but not as I will but as you will”. Matthew 26:39.

The first Adam disobeyed God to persist in His own will, but Jesus offered His will and the will of mankind in obedience to God.

Jesus blood has lost none of it’s power to redeem our self reliance and the weakness of our natural will.
As you open you spirit up to the life of Jesus, the power to overcome addictions and poor decisions will flow through your life today.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever and his blood still brings freedom to all who place their faith in Him.

Has life been exciting today?

“I think getting up in the morning is more exciting when you’re nervous. If you’re not nervous, you’re dead. . . .It’s time to change your life or your work the moment you stop having butterflies in your stomach.” – Warren Bennis

Breaking free from generational strongholds part 3

84935887

In Matthew chapter 16 Peter had a revelation that Jesus was the Christ. It was on this revelation that the church will be built, people set free and lives eternally transformed.
Christ means the anointed one and this concept has many Old Testament references and meanings. Isaiah 10:27 tells us that burdens will be removed and yokes destroyed because of the anointing.
Jesus came to set us free in every area of our lives. I believe to be truly free and to bring freedom to others then salvation must be viewed applied in a holistic way.
Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that God is at work to sanctify us spirit, soul and body.

Now here is what I see as the “big challenge” for so many believers.

We experience salvation, our spirit is cleansed but and I say “but” there still remains much residue in our souls from our past.

A damaged soul can relegate our alive spirit to a life without expression.

The function of the soul is to give expression. It articulates the mind of the spirit within us through the colour of our unique personality. The soul that is damaged, that is twisted by rejection, anger or lust will overpower or misinterpret what God is saying or doing through our spirit. So instead of the soul functioning as the vehicle of expression of our renewed spirit it instead bows down to the strongholds and destructive forces created by the devil.

For the Kingdom of God to reign within me (Luke 17:21) I must be free spirit, soul and body.

Hidden in types and shadows are many biblical examples of God’s intention to bring freedom to us in both our spirit and soul.

Here are a few examples to consider;

1/ Jesus prays for a blind man who eyes were healed yet not able to focus. Our souls left untouched hinder us seeing what God is doing. So Jesus prays a second time.

Mark 8:22:23 So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.
24 And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”
25 Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.

2/ Lazurus comes out from the grave yet still bound with grave clothes. The grave represents the old life, the dead spirit. When we hear Jesus call us we leave the old life and are transferred into the Kingdom of His Son. However Jesus wants Lazurus not only to live but to move and express the life given to him. So a second time Jesus moves and commands the grave clothes to be removed.

John 11:43 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

3/ Elisha lays on a dead boy. Life comes to the boy but with that Elisha is not satisfied. Elisha gets up then returns to the boy who sneezes 7 times and opens his eyes.

2 Kings 4 32 When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. 33 He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the LORD. 34 And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. 35 He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

This act is a prophetic demonstration as also is the sprinkling of the blood 7 times in the holy of holies in Lev 13. They both reveal how Jesus will set us free.

Stay tuned for part 4 as I reveal the 7 places where Jesus shed His blood and how the revelation of this sets us free, in spirit, soul and body.

10 Questions every church should be asking

I found this great list of questions on Ben Arment’s blog. The answers to these questions will help determine your church’s fit in the community.

1. What kind of people want to come to our church?
2. What ministries are thriving with very little effort?
3. What kind of people serve the most?
4. Who is most invested in our church right now?
5. What kind of people do our hearts beat for?
6. Who is NOT coming to our church? Why?
7. What kind of people have come to Christ at our church?
8. Who are we uniquely positioned to reach?
9. Who is not being reached by other churches in our area?
10. Who are the “connectors” in our church? Who can they reach?
